This site is dedicated to our passion: high-end tube amplifiers, turntables and vinyls.
In our opinion, high-end audio devices cannot really be grouped into good or bad ones, ones that “sound” and ones that don't. All of them ensure high quality and we believe any high-end device will find its admirer. In Oldstep, we divide devices into those we like, according to their sound and design, and the others. Our expertise is grounded on years of experience. We have been involved with amplifiers for over 10 years. That means 10 years of development, looking for the right sound, assessing the experience of others with our own practical knowledge, and establishing our own viewpoint which today fills us with amazing joy and satisfaction. Our basic philosophy and approach is to share our passion with other enthusiasts who love music and sound reproduction that brings extraordinary emotions and experience.
At the very beginning, there was one question that haunted us: Which amplifier sounds the best, which construction and class is the best? There are many ways how to find the answer to this question. You may read reviews and opinions of others. Every three months you may buy more and more components and experiment with them. Or you may visit sound/music studios, attend shows, etc. These randomly mentioned methods are surely worthwhile but beside their indisputable advantages they also have disadvantages. Reviews and articles contain subjective personal opinions, often even misconceptions and misleading information driven purely by commercial interests and we couldn't always tell apart the useful from the others. Buying new and new components is fun and exciting but also quite expensive. Testing different components in high-end studios and shows is also a lot of fun but it always raises the question how it would sound in your home environment with your components.
Today, I can say that we have found the right path for us. During those 10 years we have developed and produced nearly all types of amplifiers which we personally tried out. We got rid of some, some were dismantled, others were tweaked and perfected. On these websites we want to share our knowledge with you. In the “Technology” section you can find all our beautiful products, including not only high-end audio components, but also amplifiers for guitar and/or bass players and vintage components that we came across. We will show you how those devices look inside, share with you what we discovered during their construction and honestly tell you what we think about their sound.
Another thing we can say with a complete certainty is that during our process of developing various designs, purchasing components and listening to music, a true love was born. Love for vacuum tubes, turntables and vinyl records. Listening to music and working with this “material” brings us the greatest joy and we aim to be really good in this field.
